OUR ASPARAGUS VARIETIES
The Südwestdeutsche Saatzucht has a long history of asparagus breeding. Actually, it can be traced back to 1912. This means that Südwestdeutsche Saatzucht was the first professional asparagus breeding operation in Germany and has contributed to shaping the cultivation of asparagus profoundly.
One of the special achievements is the breeding of the first hybrid asparagus variety “Schwetzinger Meisterschuss“ in 1952 as well as the world’s first purely male asparagus variety “Lucullus” in 1975.
In the most recent history of the company breeding of asparagus has been further intensified, coping with the continuously changing needs in agricultural practice.
The focus is set on breeding of white asparagus as well as green asparagus varieties for Central and Western Europe.
The Südwestdeutsche Saatzucht controls breeding, seed production and sales and distribution of the seed. This way we can ensure an outstanding quality of the seed.
