RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CULTIVATION
Production target | High grain yields with the best einkorn baking quality and an intense flavour while having a low cultivation input. |
Crop rotation | Comparable to spelt wheat with regard to crop rotation; ripening approx. 1-2 weeks later than wheat; positive experience with regard to cultivation after grain maize. |
Sowing time | From the end of September to mid-October |
Seeding | Sowing rate: |
October early: 330 - 380 germinable spikelets/m² (appr. 140 - 160 kg/ha)
October late: 380 - 430 germinable spikelets/m² (appr. 160 - 180 kg/ha)
March early: 350 - 400 germinable spikelets/m² (appr. 150 - 170 kg/ha)
March late: 420 - 460 germinable spikelets/m² (appr. 180 - 200 kg/ha)
Sowing in spring is only recommended when the water supply is not critical. Increasing the sowing rate by ca. 10 % on the basis of organic production methods (e.g. harrowing) should be carried out at own discretion.
Weed control | Blind harrowing in autumn is recommended, in order to get weed pressure under control that was built up due to a very slow youth development. From leaf stage 3 on, harrowing is possible again. |
