RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CULTIVATION

Location
Richer soils at locations suitable for durum cultivation with warm and dry summers, viticultural climate, or regions where grain maize is cultivated.
Crop rotationGrass clover, lucerne grass or late harvested leaf crops are the optimal preceding crops, maize and cereals are to be avoided.
Sowing timeAs early as possible until the beginning of April. Optimum sowing dates have a beneficial effect on yield and quality.
SeedingSowing rate:

Favourable conditions: 370 - 400 grains/m²

Unfavourable conditions: 400 - 450 grains/m²

Increasing the sowing rate on the basis of organic production methods (e.g. harrowing) should be carried out at own discretion. Autumn sowing at favourable locations is possible, however this always carries the risk of winter killing.
Weed control
Cultivation should only be carried out on parcels with low weed pressure. When it comes to the cultivation of durum wheat repeated harrowing during pre- and post- emergence is imperative. Another option would be the cultivation with a certain distance between the rows that allows hoeing.
